Apologies to all the keen Ruperteers out there for the slightly delayed issue of this week’s Blog. We are sure by next week we will either be back on track or will have come up with a brilliant excuse.
Anyway, this last week has been all about BITES and BIKES, see what we did there?
The Class Mates of Rupert from Castlefields School cake stand was back in the High Street on Saturday providing weary shoppers with a constant fix of sugary sustenance. A tremendous £309.43 was raised on the day so a big thank you to all involved and all those who put their hand in their pocket for Rupert. We hear there is talk of it returning in the future too.
On Sunday there were a few minor road closures around the area due to 15,000 barking mad cyclists wanting to complete the 100 mile Velo Birmingham event. Last week we told you about Steve Hyde who was supporting Rupert in this event and we are extremely pleased to announce that Steve successfully completed the course in 6hrs 36mins despite a few attempts to sabotage the event, one or two bouts of cramp and a total lack of water at the water stops. At the last count Steve had raised £930 and is saying that this may well rise still further. Great work Steve. BUT it doesn’t end there, we have to also congratulate Stan The Man and Gareth Froggatt who also completed the circuit raising awareness and money for Rupert, we will bring you more details when we get it but a big thanks to these guys too. There is now talk of entering a team into the event next year so keep an eye out for MAMIL (Middle Aged Men In Lycra) requests coming soon.
Just to repeat the requests from last week for upcoming events where we need some volunteers:
- On 6th, 7th and 8th October we will be at Sainsbury’s packing bags for customers and would welcome any volunteers to assist.
- On Sunday 8th October we are entering a team into the Up the Steps Walk organised by The Rotary Club of Bridgnorth and are looking for additional team members.
- On 31st October The Gym Club are fundraising via a Halloween Haunting event and need people to sign up to classes such as Boogie Bounce, Combat, Body Balance, HIIT, Spin, Pump, etc. Dust off your fancy dress lycra people J

Looking ahead to the weekend, in addition to the Bridgnorth Choir Mania event starting at 7:30pm at The Leisure Centre we have Rupert’s Comedy Night starting at 7:30pm at Bridgnorth Rugby Club. We know what you are thinking, how can they be that poor at organising events to have not spotted this clash. Well in our defence, firstly we are not very good at this and secondly the Black Country Boys, who are appearing at Rupert’s Comedy Night, are reported to be a little blue so it’s doubtful that there is much of an overlap of the demographic. However, in an attempt to cover any common taste Liz will be flitting between the two venues performing out of tune Contralto at the comedy show and telling mother-in-law jokes to the Mezzo-Soprano’s. What could possibly go wrong?
